St Lawrence School and Special Needs Centre
This is a large school of approx. 1200 children, situated beside Misisi slum. It was supported by Project Zambia in early- mid 2000s, when the school was less developed as we helped develop the basic infrastructure and needs such as classrooms, water and electricity. Project Zambia and St Lawrence School re-engaged after a number of years of the school functioning independently to further develop the needs which had arisen since we last helped with a project. It is an officially recognised school by Zambian government and offers education to children residing in slum area up to and including exam years. St.Lawrence School is run to an extremely high standard and has acted as an example to show our other host communities what can be done.

Partnership
Project Zambia have partnership agreements with each host community as a way of holding each other accountable, highlight our history together and to create short term and long term goals for the future. Documents are reviewed regularly to ensure all parties are happy with progress and have the same vision going forward. We work as co-equals throughout the development of each project to ensure we progess in the most efficient way possible.
What have we done:
Since we began working with St Lawrence School and Special Needs Centre 2002, the school has become one of the top performing schools in Lusaka. When we first established our relationship with them, it was a small community school and now it is a Government School with over 1200 pupils. Project Zambia have helped contribute to this by bringing the buildings up to government standards and create space or learning to take place. We have:
Built multiple classroom blocks
Installed a water pump for staff and pupils
created toilet blocks for both staff and pupils which have been updated in recent years.
Built a community hall to facilitate practical subjects and exams
invested in a staff room for teachers
provided a back up generator for electricity
funded a computer suite
provided books, PE kits, and resources for learning.
